Is the oil pan on yet? hahaha Working on temporary sides for my flatbed as we speak, but I cant find my dang drill. battery is probably dead anyway lol. Don't worry about that "office" as I had my entire engine in the "dining room" in my house while I rebuilt it.

Actually, more like spoken by a man who's read this thread a few too many times. There's no SWMBO in my life atm.
Though one could say experience in the above matter could be close to childhood experience cleaning up before the parental units came home.

yes yes yes....I remember that as well.
Ok....on a technical note....PUMPKINYOTA said something like "being 180 degrees off".....how could that be...I spin the crank and see when the #1 is at top and the woodruff key is at 12 o'clock.....that has to be the right position....I don't want to be paralyzed thinking I'm putting stuff on just to take it back apart.....

By 180 out, I am referring to the relationship in mechanical timing between the crank and the cam. With the head off, this doesn't exist yet.
When you put it all back together, and put the Timing Chain back on, it will be pretty simple. At that point, you make sure that the key on the crank is at 12:00, and that the mark on the cam sprocket lines up with the mark on the rocker assembly.
I didn't mean to make it sound like a much bigger deal than it is, it really is very simple to put everything together right, and very simple to fix if it is 180 out. All I was referring to is that, for such a simple mistake, I don't know a single mechanic who hasn't made it several times.

So... you have painted the oil pan... the timing chaing cover... most likely the valve cover. Now picture it... The block not painted...

Still going to look awesome even if you dont take it out! Congrats on the shiny red paint im jealous

Just you wait, I'm sure he'll figure out some way to paint the block with it still in the truck. We'll all get to enjoy about 10 pages of it too.
Of course, he could just stop being so cheap and buy a cherry picker and make this all that much more easy to do.

by the way....copper RTV says to not use it with headgaskets.......am I'm gonna go dry then??? what about timing cover to block....just gaskets or rtv too?
#1360
I used just gaskets on the timing cover, dry head gasket except for there the timing cover meets up in the corners. Use the gaskets for the timing cover from the headset not the one in the timing chain box.
