89 pickup 3.0 wont start
Just bought, knowing it didn't run and it had black smoke just prior to parking it they said and run like ˟˟˟˟ so it sat for 6 months before I bought it, but I cleaned out mass air filter and hoses with mass air cleaner. It has fuel pressure at the fuel log, has spark at the plugs but replaced cap & rotor anyway. It turns over without any noise in the engine. Can it be the mass air flow or maybe the timing? Help!! this is my 1st Toyota and I don't know the quirks of them but I got one hell of a deal on it!!!!!

Mass air filter? Fuel log?
Well, you don't have a Mass Air Flow meter (different technology), but yes, the VAF could keep it from starting. Particularly if you sprayed something into it. Along with timing, fuel pump, valve timing, and on and on.
Just from your description, I would start with a compression test. Black smoke, run like crap, and particularly "turns over without any noise" could all be caused by low compression.
I hope you got paid a lot to take this vehicle off their hands. It sounds like it's going to set you back quite a bit to get it running.
Good luck!
