1990 3.0 3vze Limp mode ? Jump Time ? Ideas ?

1990 3.0 4wd pickup. Someone tried to steal the truck. Roughed up some wires under the steering column. Drove truck the next day ran ok, headed home turned left then lost power, clattering, barely pulls itself.
Acts just like it did when i had the timing belt 1 tooth off when i did water pump and idler pulley. Fixed that ran correct.
I have never dealt with any limp mode and do not know how it would act. Does this model have a limp mode. Could it be activated by a shorted wired under the column ? I was getting ready to pull the front of the motor off thinking it jumped time.
Saw someone mentioned limp mode with an issue they have. Started wondering is that my problem ? If so how to you reset to exit limp mode ?
Any ideas greatly appreciated. I really need to get this thing rolling again.
Yes it does start and run, no overheat. No knock. Just clatter. and very low power.
