Tried plugging an innova scanner into my toy. I know the Diagnostic port is getting power but it will not let the scanner read. Checked to see if any fuses were bad, but could not find any bad. Any help would be much appreciated.

 

There's no need for it anyway. Use a paperclip...

 

Which tool? Did you make sure it's OBD capable?

 

thats like buying an Iphone because you needed a calculator. all you need is a paper clip or a small piece of wire. TE1 to E1 and watch the pretty light.

 

It's not just malfunction codes. There is actually abit of information available on the data port of these systems. See here, as posted not long ago. There are benefits to using a OBD scanner. Firstly you get all the sensor data with one connection, so you don't need a dozen probes in hard to reach places or a dozen sensor tests. Secondly it's what the computer things, not just the sensor reading which requires a conversion chart or calculator to figure out.


Anyways, I'm betting the tool isn't compatible. You can hook up an analog gauge volt meter and find out, a digital will work but it's not going to catch much of the data I don't recall the datarate.

I'm abit forgetful and tend to forget post titles or overlook them completely. It's good form to restate the title in the first sentence or paragraph (Hey wow I really did remember/learn something in english classes).

Thanks, I know the jumper works from setting the timing and the light flashing. I wasn't sure if the scanner would work for this year model or not.
