Prototype 1993 OBD Reader

it's still very much a prototype, but I was able to pull and parse out some of the OBD data from my 1993 4Runner! See the attached image.

Still lots of work to do, but was pretty stoked and wanted to share!

Cheers!

Very nice sir! There are some old open source gadgets for this floating around but they are pretty rusty neglected and forgotten.

Where is our details damnit, it's just squiggles on a paper with out details!

If you short TE2 to ground (E1), you get a serial stream coming out of VF1. I'm reading it in with an arduino and converting the data with some python scripts.

The next steps are getting the arduino to parse out the data, so you can read the values directly over the serial port. Then make a simple program to data log/show pretty real time graphs. I still need to convert it to engineering units and test the signals to make sure they're actually what I think they are too =)

After that, the vision is to add WiFi or bluetooth to the reader and make an iPhone/Android App. That's probably a little further down the road though.
