'88 3.0 v6 problem (timing belt ?'s)
1st post for me
anyway, i have an '88 4x4 v6 pickup with 163,xxx miles
couple of weeks back it left me stranded on the interstate, on a monday morning on my way to work
no signs of any thing beforehand, it bucked once and about 2 seconds later just shutoff
i get it back to the house. start messing with it and find out it has no spark, anywhere at anytime...
upon further inspection i find out the distributor isnt spinning while cranking the engine over.
leads me to believe the timing belt broke or the idler is shot.
my questions are these,
is the '88 v6 an interference motor?
is there an online writeup for timing belt replacement?
what is the average cost if i were to pay someone to do this (2nd option as i am mechanically capable)
thanks
MM

well... i do hope it is a timing belt. could also be a broken distributor/cam shaft. because by the way you say it bucked...it may be a more serious problem. although...i could just be talking outa my pooper.
