87 knocking? what could it be.

Hello new guy. But I bought an 87' pickup for a mud truck build. The guy who had it before me said it started knocking and that's why he sold it. I'm just curious as to what it could be. It runs and moves. But barely.

More info would be good. 22RE, 3VZE, SBC swap????

it could be a rod bearing or main but a knock is going to mean tear down one way or another.

Get yourself a stethoscope. This one is pretty cheap: http://www.harborfreight.com/mechani...ope-69913.html , but a piece of heater hose or even the core of a roll of paper towels will work. This will help you localize the sound. Which might tell you more.

Runs and moves, barely huh???

If its truly an internal engine knock, and not something peripheral, you need to look for money for an engine overhaul.

Get one of your friends who is more car-savvy to listen to it. It's very difficult to diagnose noises over the internet.

Hope you did'nt pay too much.

I think you did OK for $400.

You'll have plenty more than that in it soon.
