I've got an 86 4 runner that I blew up the original 22r in it. So now in the process of swapping an 92 2wd 22re. Almost everything is done I just need help with a couple of plugs which I believe will solve the problem I'm having which is no power to my coil/ ignitor. If anyone could help that would be greatly appreciated thank you.

 

Coil plug on my 87 4runner is round...and green. You should post up more pics, I just finished putting in my engine back in. Many more on here will chime in eventually, especially with more identifying pics

 

Mine was green until I switched out with the 92 coil so that it would match my harness but there is an extra plug on my 86 that my 92 wiring harness does not have which leads me to believe one of these two are supposed send power to the coil.

 

So the two plugs are located close to o2 sensor plug. They are the very next two if you trace back from the o2 plug. ( all three, the two I need help with and the o2 sensor, are in my hand)

 

Here is the second plug that used to plug into my ignitor ( the first one came off the wiring harness) but now my new ignitor only has one plug coming off of it and my theory is that this plug (round green in picture) supplied the power to my old ignitor and that one of the two plugs I need help with now supply my new ignitor with power

 

Your doing this with your old harness and the newer engine??

Or trying to use the old coil igniter with the new harness??

You do have the EWD`s for both years ??

 

No I'm using the new engine new wiring harness new coil/ ignitor however there is some wiring harness that is mounted to the engine bay it's sealed that I havnt replaced simply because I don't have the new one. And I think that is where my problem is. I'm not sure what the EWD is?

I believe that green is the old '86 color? don't even try interfacing it with the newer stuff, it probably won't match up... the ignitor and such are definitely not interchangeable.

 

Yeah I figured it would probably be that way. Can I just directly wire my ignitor to a hot line? Or does it have to have an exact amount of power going to it?

 

For this picture I need to know if the cable with two wires goes to the possitive or negative side of the coil

 

I don't know about the connection to the coil, but if this is your old ignitor, there is a component pinout diagram picture link on the page:

I run efi, not sure how your old 22r carbed deal hooks up.

 

Have you swapped the Ecu??

your going to fuel injection or trying to use the carb and manifold off the old engine

The fuel injection also needs much higher fuel pressure.

That is where the signal comes to the ignter from

I was unaware the 22R could be had in the 4Runner .

Yes I did swap the ecu is that what adjusts my fuel pressure? Or do I need to adjust that somehow. Idk if the 22r I blew up was stock it's just how I got.

Who really knows what you have.

Most often the 22REC has the higher pressure pump in the tank now if a 22r was swapped in did they reduce the fuel pressure some how .

just disconnect the electric pump ??

Did the 22R have the manual fuel pump ?

A challenge in any case.

 

So I've worked on my truck tonight and figured a couple things out. First of all I do have spark now and it is a steady one spark every second or so. I know that I have fuel to the fuel line connected to the intake but the right pressure idk. I know that there is power going to my injectors about 10v or so when the engine is cranking but it confused me to see that I have a full 12 when the key is on but no cranking. My issue is the engine just cranks and I can't figure out why.

 

I did forget to mention before that the 22r that was in the vehicle before had some type of fuel injection kit on it. ( when I bought it I thought and was told it was a 22re but soon found out it was actually a 22r with a kit) so I'm assuming that whoever converted it to fuel injection had to deal with the fuel pump pressure. The pressure seemed fine while it ran the 22r with the FI kit on it. That might explain why my ignition and fuel pump are hard wired to switches on the dash

 

My truck is just cranking and doesn't want to start. I know I have spark and I know I'm on time I'm thinking maybe my fuel injector timing.. How do I check that?
