86 Pickup 4x4 22re

Hey guys, this might get long so bare with me. I just bought an 86 yesterday. Motor was rebuilt by previous owner. When test drove it, it had a sputter on take off but rode out fine. Test drove it twice, same thing everytime. So I bought it. Well driving it home it did fine. Stopped to get something to eat and when I went to pull out it started breaking up pretty bad. Well after some hossing it it finally went away and got me home. Got home and put some injector cleaner in it and tried it a couple of times and just had the sputter on take off (about the same as the test drives) but then rides out fine. So this morning I let it run a minute before driving and no sputter, but at 45 it didn't want to go any faster for a mile or two and then it went away and did fine the rest of the way to work. The guy said he did a tune up to it in the last 3 months. My friend thinks it may be the injectors. As far as I can tell those havent been replaced. I haven't had a chance to really start looking, does anyone know a good place to start looking? Keep in mind I not the best mechanic, so you might need to explain it. Thanks

start by checking the fuel filter and maybe the pump, and start with wires and fuses, maybe even in the ECU has corrosion inside it. Mine was cutting out a bit then died, the pump would run but wasnt getting enough juice from the battery cause of the ECU, and since that happened it burned something in the pump that made it keep poping the fuse so i had i nice combo going on. But it really sounds like just a filter from what your describing.

X2, also might want to replace the cap and rotor while you're at it. These are easy things to do and won't cost much.

I've tried all the easy things. I took it and had it put on a scanner and everything checked out fine. That guy said he suspected the fuel pump. But anothe mechanic said if it was the fuel pump it wouldn't ride out strong like it does. He said it would break up more through third and fourth, instead of first and second like it does. I could deal with the sputter through first and second, but the not cranking up sometimes I can't. It's GOT to crank up everytime I get in it. The other day it cranked up all eight times I got in it. The next morning it wouldn't crank, that afternoon it cranked right up. ??????????????
