86' 5 speed upgrades *pictures* updated often
I thought since I was going to be changing a lot of things on the 86' I just got, I would start a thread... Soon to come will be: custom front bumper, custom rear bumper, 60" Hi-Lift mounts, (possibly) sliders, (possible) Aussie front locker, and an old bed made new. While I"m waiting for transmission parts from Toyota I decided to get started on my custom kick boxes. So here you go!
I took my kick panels off and copied them onto 1/4" plywood, cut out a ring for the speaker and supported the ring at the angle I wanted.
I covered the box with thick felt (felt actually works better than fiberglass mech netting)
After streching the felt as best I could, I pushed in on the center of the ring to smooth everything out and stapled around the edge. that's all for right now, Tomorrow I'll have pictures of the dried boxes (they have wet fiberglass resin on them right now) I will cover the boxes in vinal and install them. more pics to come shortly. Hiriden

Well it's not to late to change! I've seen lots of people put the speakers really close to the floor. I wanted mine up as high as possible to avoid water/mud etc.

It's really not very difficult, it took probably 5-6 hours to make both boxes. I would stick with the heavy felt. All the materials (not including speakers) cost $25 bucks. Hiriden

yes, I've made lots of boxes before, but never using this method. I would suggest buying an electic or pneumatic stapler. I have a few blisters from my mechanical one.
