Does anyone have a remedy for the tailgate that wont close all the way? The passanger side of the tailgate wont latch, and I have to push it in to close/open the window.

Figure out why it is not latching. Maybe a seal is sicking out or the latches are not adjusted right or something is loose or worn out. Basically open up the access hatch and watch what happens when someone closes the tailgate and when they push on it to make it latch.

I just had an issue with my rear window not going up; it turned out to be the latch switch that disables the window if the door isn't closed entirely. If direct current (power) is applied to the motor, it should go up and down. If it doesn't, your motor is fried.

We can't manually raise and lower our windows, it would be great to see an after market kit though to make them manual, like an old Blazer.

Yank your old motor and replace it.

I was having the same problem just yesterday and couldnt figure out. As soon as I saw this post I tried it and it worked.

Question 1992 4runner tailgate lock malfunction

Camping recently turned into a bugger when I couldn't unlock the tailgate from the inside, with the window down (as you do)... meaning all my stuff under my sleeping platform, accessible only with a lowered tailgate, was stuck out of reach.

I thought the lock might have seized or the handle broken, but when I got home and managed to pull all the junk out of the car and pulled the tailgate cover off under the carpet, I found that everything works okay, but it seems that once everything is put in place and the window goes back up again - yes it blooming well locks itself again. from this awesome forum, I can see its a safety mechanism meant to happen now, but I cannot see why its failing to push the lock back up after the window is all the way fully down again. what am I missing?

alternatively - is there a way to 'trick' or bypass the automatic lock when the window goes back up so there is no lock in place ever again?

I appreciate any help... I'm about at wits end and going to go camping again in a couple of weeks and want to get it sorted asap!

Might be related to #4 below:

See if you can load your gear in the back with the access panel off and see if you can see what is going on there, basically try to duplicate the problem scenario. It is all pretty simple mechanisms. See if you can get an idea how all the components operate. You can usually find out the cause of the problem and perhaps a way to bypass the locking feature, too.

Thanks for your suggestion. It has happened again with no load in there so there's some reason why she won't disengage the lock - I just can't see it
