3VZHeat Shields

Originally I was going to get some headers for my 3VZ-E when I buil the engine.
Some things came up, and I had to spend the money elsewhere ot get the rig put back together.
I misplaced the heat shields for the stock exhaust manifolds.

Are these absoulutly necessary?

Could I get some header wrap tape and wrap them to achieve the same effect?
Could I leave them off and just not worry about it?

And yes, I do realize that Toyota put them there for a reason.

Thanks!

So... you are having to put the stock manifolds back on, is that correct?

I'd do a close check of where the shields were and what they were trying to protect. Fuel lines and your speedo cable are two items that spring to mind which won't like to get hot.

Might find some of the shields were more for driver comfort. Might find replacements at a salvage yard or something that would work or fab some of your own I suppose.

Really though, with everything that far apart, it seems a shame to put the stock exhaust back on. You'll have a big job down the line should you ever decide to install headers again.

Yeah, I am putting the stock manifolds back on.

IT's a question of time and money.

The truck is in my dad's garage taking up space he needs for some of his projects.

If I could let it sit another month so I can put in headers, I'd do it. But I can't. I have looked at the process for putting the headers in, and Idon't think it's going to be THAT big of a deal.

I just need to get this rig back on the road.

I'm doing my HG replacement, and re-using the stock manifolds. My driver's side heat shield fell apart from rust when I took it off. The heat shields in the two 4Runners in the local junkyard are just as rusty (if not more) then mine was, so they're no good. The dealer wants $75 for a new one (not likely), so I'm going to make one out of sheet metal, I think. All I can see that it's protecting on that side is the plastic cover pieces on the steering shaft, and some miscellaneous wiring, but I'll make one just to be safe, I think.

I was just in the garage and saw a whole set of these hanging from the wall.

$10 delivered (that'll cover my fed ex which is what we use for shipping around here.)

LMK if you are interested.

Correction, I have two complete sets. Likely to be three soon...

They are all brand new, never used.

What do you consider a set? One driver's side manifold heat shield and one passenger's side manifold heat shield? And these are for the 3.0L? I am interested if they are new. $10 shipped to Calais, ME (04619)? Are you setup for Paypal?

Absolutely no paypal. For a few thousand reasons why go to www.NOpaypal.com. Read the whistleblower thread. I can personally attest to 3/4s of the scams paypal pulls.

I do have a webstore that takes credit cards. Click the link, it's a misc $1 item. Check out. Our std freight cost is $10. I'll have to waive the dollar via admin to make it come out to $10.

I just pulled them off the wall and took a pic. Appears that 3 of them are the same and one's got a little extension. These were for my '94 3VZE motor and came with a Factory Gasket set. I have headers so don't use them.

For ten bucks you can have any two of them you want and delivered by Fed Ex anywhere in the US48.

Those are the gaskets between the head and the manifolds. We're talking about the heat shields that bolt to the outside of the manifolds.
