Should injector be replaced?
I'm putting a remanned 3VZE in my 94 4Runner. I was about to install the rails & injectors and noticed that one of the injectors didn't look right. Upon closer inspection, I realized that the plastic covering on the tip had broken off. I've attached a photo of it.
Does this warrant a replacement? I'm tired of throwing money at this truck (which I have driven less than 2 miles since buying it at an auction) but then again, I want it fixed once and for all. Advice?

Four of mine has broken off also but I haven't run it yet but let see when I finish the HG and all, I'm thinking that you should try to reuse them but make sure you take all the plastic out first and install them in and tell us any effect or normal it cause when you are using the old injector's, I also like to hear from you after you done them, thanks!..

get a new one. that one will have a poor spray pattern that could be bad enough to cause a miss fire. by the way good luck w/ the reman engine. ive seen more bad than good w/ them.

That is just a plastic shell. I would get all your injectors cleaned. They replace all the o rings, the internal screens, and those plastic caps when they do it (the good shops at least)

Do a google search for 'cruizin performance' I had them do my 3vze injectors that looked WORSE than yours at only 225,000 miles. They do a before and after flow test and balance testing as well as ultrasonically clean and replace all the plastic parts on the injector as well as replace the injector screens.
Honestly 4 of my 6 were 99% of oem, 1 was 98%, and the last was 97% the flow of oem. Afterwards 3 were 100% oem specs and 3 were 99% and all spray patterns checked out.
My advice, send em to cruizin perfromance to have em rebuild and cleaned. Totally satisfied here with the job they did at 8bux an injector (iirc)

It's good to know that I don't need to replace the injector. Unfortunately, Cruizin Performance is not accepting any more injectors for service until further notice. Hopefully I can find someone locally to do it b/c I really would like to get this job finished this weekend!

I hear that some NAPA service shops will clean injectors and replace warn parts. Ask specifically about the "pintle" - that's what's damaged.
I sent mine to www.witchhunter.com - $15/injector - cleaned, flow tested, new pintles and all o-rings.. Can't beat it.

I called around and no one around here does it. They all said to buy new injectors. So, I'm sending them off to witchhuter this afternoon unless someone offers an alternative.

buying a new injector because the pintle cap is broken is like buying a new oil pan because the gasket is leaking. The only problem that may arise assuming the injector itself is flowing to spec, is there may be a small vacuum leak getting around the cap and the o-ring above the cap. But its best to get that cap replaced. I just got mine back today from Witchunter and couldnt be happer with the fast, thorough service. +1 for witchunter
