No, don't mash anything. It should slide in there easily. Your gears just aren't lining up. Rotate your dist and/or cam slightly.

the oring is stopping it form seating, use some oil ont he o-ring and it shoudl slide in. you may have to twist it some and put some pressure to get it in, but it should go.

What is the purpose of making the Chief pipe mod?

Is it to help with the #6 exhaust from getting overheated and HG overheated back there to prevent another blown gasket?

Is it to help increase power?

In both cases, running another crossover pipe, albeit in another location back to the original stock left side exhaust manifold (driver's side) will not solve either of those issues.

If you have the ability to cut and weld exhaust pipes, then you should seal the driver's side cross over inlet and weld a Y-pipe further down. This would help alleviate the heating issues for the Number 6 cylinder. The problem is the whole right bank dumps it's heated exhaust right there at number 6 and it sounds as if your mod would still do the same thing if you are using the stocker manifold.

Am I understanding correctly what you are doing??

alright
first my camera is pur crap so,if i didnt had my crapy camera i had to take pics wit my cell phone,aanyway.so heres the chief pipe mod deal all about,im making a drawing right now ill post later tonight;
im gonna CANCEL my cross over pipe ,byebye,in the trash, next that would physicaly leave two holes in the original setup ,one on the left side (from front)that supose to get back to numb 6 and the one thats on the right side (from front )that connect that same cross over to the previous side. NOW im gonna close that hole on that right side from cross over than keep the original setup that goes down to your o2 sensor as in the previous picture. now follow closely, for the left side im gonna cut the old cross over end and weld a down pipe to it so i can bolt that thing in the left side. and to finish im just gonna make an elbow to connect that side to my other side just BEFORE the O2 sensor .As for performance im not expecting a change. its just to cancel the over heating problem.

Chief you want to be careful with your clearances as you cross over the front driveshaft...
wait a minute your sig says you have a lift so it should'nt be a problem...

Why don't you just do this?

3VZE TOP END+homemade ??Y PIPE?? MOD!!!-chief2mt2.jpg

You would cure the heat issue you want to deal with and you are using the existing location for that crossover section of exhaust. If you bottom out over a rock, you would crush that exhaust under the tranny.

cause i wanna get rid of my god damn crossover manifold, and i think that witout it ,theres gonna be less heat around the head gasket back there.as for the clearance ,there is no problem with that i got like one feet or more between the shaft and tranny thx to my susp lift. anyway is a good thing u said that cause i dont know if its gonna fit witout a lift actualy...

as for the rock issue ,dude first of all that shaft is strait solid ,it doesnt move freely up and down ,and my new pipe is right over it,so if get a rock its gonna hit my shaft not my pipe!! and basicaly its pretty rare you hit your front shaft on a rock ,if your not doing some insane rock climbing witch i dont.

I see that I started a trend by painting my plenum and valve covers black!

What performance mods have you done? An extra 30hp can be pulled out of the heads alone...before the cams.
