You guys are discussing a hydrogen fueled 3vze. Pretty sure Doc Brown's Delorean is a better idea at this point and that idea is strictly Hollywood.

i am very familiar with carbureted vehicles, and own three right now. my ‘75 cj5 with a 258 with a weber k551 32/36 dgv, my ‘48 dodge 1.5-ton dump truck with 1 bbl carter ball & ball, and my ‘52 ford 8n with marvel schebler updraft. i’ve owned the cj for 27 years, the truck for 13, and the tractor for 11. they all run very well, idle perfectly, and give acceptable, reliable service (the carbs, if not the vehicles).

 

"HHO" was a popular topic about 12-15 years ago. The idea was to use alternator current to electrolyze water into Hydrogen and Oxygen, and then inject that into the fuel stream to get amazing improvements in fuel economy. Obviously, it's not that hydrogen is replacing gasoline, rather, the argument went, a tiny amount of hydrogen in the intake (and a boat-load of electronics to over-ride the ECM) would allow your run-of-the-pump gasoline to burn 12-20 (to 100) percent more efficiently.

Did it work back then? Probably not, but science can be discovered in someone's backyard just as well as in a laboratory. Careful experimentation can lead to incredible breakthroughs. Would it work today? No car today uses HHO. So far as I'm aware, there are no billionaires who made their mark with HHO. There are still people out there who will sell you an HHO generator, but somehow I would expect it to have gone more mainstream in 12-15 years if it really worked.

But if you want to try it, I can't see any reason not to. I'd figure hundreds of thousands of dollars and many years, but if you can pull it off then you will be that billionaire.

 

It's gone a bit farther than that, let's run a double battery system unregulated and generate five liters of gas per minute..

It's super duper unsafe to run an IC engine on this stuff which is why they went with PEM electrical generators on the very few fuel cell vehicles.

 

Maybe the mainstream doesn't want it that way... what's to sell you, when you have a car that runs so much more efficently? Maybe so they make the HHO people out to be crack pots, and deny the viability.. and that's usually easy, because the HHO crowd generally kinda are a little tweaked.

But look at Tesla, he was made out to be a crack pot. And all his fame was earned posthumously, some of the things he invented was stolen by a more famous name. Yet his arch nemesis who didn't hardly invent anything, we still remember, as one of the great inventors. He filed and kept all the inventions of his worker/students under his own name and kept the patents in case someone else came up with a similar better idea... and he'd sue, even if his idea didn't work.. killing some possible great ideas for money.

Many of those patents are far more rediculous and preposterous is than Tesla's were.. so.. .. .. who was the real crack pot?

Gregery, how's your HHO project coming along? I'm very interested! Glad to see there are other 3vze owners thinking about on-board HHO air optimization. Rather than trying to reinvent a carburetor, would simply tweaking the O2 sensor/signal work for your application?

That's different. That would be a full-on hydrogen conversion, and it's already successfully been done many times. Here's a study by the ASEE where they converted a 3.0 V6 Sienna:
