3.4 obtained, help me gather knowledge?
my very first yotatech post....
man, never thought i'd find a decent 3.4, but i did. it's out of a totalled 97 taco 5spd 4x4. 133k on the engine, paid 800 for everything, and the guy even pulled it for me. glad i found it, cause if i didn't find one soon i was just gonna do a ford 302.
so i have my engine and all associated electrical 'stuff'. now i just need to begine compiling knowledge to do the swap. i've searched around on here and other places, and found a little info, but if anybody has any advice, tips, links, etc, it would definitely be appreciated. this seems to be the most knowledgable forum for this swap, and i wanna go into this with as much knowledge as possible. hopefully i'll be able to put together a mondo "how-to" with buttloads of pics and stuff as i go along, to help other folks out.
oh, and i am gonna go for it without the ORS kit. seems too spendy for what seems to be essentially just an adapter with some hoses thrown in. i work on jet aircraft electronics for a living, so i figure i got a decent shot at making it work with just me, my buddies, and 2 service manuals and my multimeter.
thanks guys
my rig = '93 4x4 5spd

X2 about ORS! Mike is very helpful when you run into the unexpected!
As a side note, most of the components in the complete kit are Toyota OEM, so that gives you great confidence in the reliability right from the get-go.
Read every 3.4 conversion thread you can find. They all have little hints and tricks of the trade to simplify the project, and they will help to minimize the un-expected.
Good luck! You will really like this engine in your truck!
