NOOB QUESTION!

So, what is backspacing?

Also I wanted to put on 1.5" BlowJob spacers up front on my second gen. and landcruiser coils in the rear.
How much of a lift do the landcruiser coils give?

Also, I want to put 33" tires on my truck after this little lift, but I was wondering if 35" could fit without doing anymore lift and without mauling the fenders? (I'm only asking because I'm confused about what backspacing is).

Thanks

my cruiser coils gave 3.5 inches of lift. 35's def won't fit with no more lift. If you do just the BJ spacers upront, you may need to trim the pinchweld to stop rubbing. and this website will explain the backspacing.

Ok. So 3.5 inches in the rear and 1.5 inches up front. Hmm. Well my 4Runner's rear sags some so maybe it will work out to be pretty even? Do you think?

I think 33's would be big enough for right now anyway. So that's fine.

What is the pinchweld? I'm assuming it's a weld on or near the front fenders. ??

And I don't see a website to explain the backspacing.. Maybe you didn't type it.

Thanks

sorry i forgot to add the site, heres one explaining the pinchweld http://www.customtacos.com/tech/index.php?article=9

and heres the one for the backspacing http://www.getahelmet.com/jeeps/tech/backspace/

with the cruiser coils and bj spacers my 4runner sits with the front 1 inch lower, if you want you can crank the torsion bars too, to level it. but i don't mind the little bit of nosedive it has.

Alright awesome.
Those sites really helped. Thanks a lot.

I don't want to crank the torsion bars. I've decided against it because it's just too risky for me.

1inch lower in front isn't too bad. But I dunno if I could live with that. lol. I'm picky.

Something else I've considered is doing coil spacers(I rather not). but I think it might be ok.

If I have a saggy rear end and I put on 2inch spacers and 1.5inch spacers up front.
Judging by what you said about the landcruiser coils maybe it would be 1/2inch lower in the rear?

I know it's not right comparing it this way. I'm just trying to get an idea.

Also, the cruiser coils probably vary depending on how much spring they have? correct?

i guess with the spacers it would probably be like that depending on how much yours sag. The cruiser coils i'm pretty sure all give around the same amount of lift. the 1 inch difference is pretty much unnoticable unless you point it out. this is what mine looks like.

Ok. I did some thinking.

I was wondering if anyone had a pic of a 2nd gen. 4Runner that has 1.5 inch BJ spacers up front, Cruiser coils in the rear, 33x12.50 tires, and some type of wheel spacers (like maybe 3 inches).

I was also considering just lifting the front with the spacers and leaving the rear coils stock and have 33x12.50 tires with 3 inch wheel spacers. Anyone have a pic of that??

Spacers for the rear coils just doesn't sound appealing to me, but I really don't want to get a 3-4 inch lift with the cruiser coils in the rear and 1.5 inches with bj spacers up front... I'm worried that the difference will be worse than a 1 inch difference. A 1 inch difference probably wouldn't bother me too much.

Thanks

with 3" wheel spacers, you're going to get major rubbing on the front fender, not to mention, your rear tire won't stuff into the fender. I have the setup you are talking about but with no wheel spacers and the rear just barely misses the fender when it goes to stuff in there. Any wider and my "stuff" flex in the rear would be much more limited as it would hit the fender.

Here's a pic, there's room for an 1" spacer mayber

My rims have 3.75" backspacing (which is pretty common for 15x8 aftermarket rims)

Quote: I did some research on what type of lift kit i wanted for my truck, and i rang into a lot of lifts, so i thought id post them, as a helpful guide for beginners

First off let me explain that you do not need a lift kit to fit 33x10.50 or 33x12.50. the 10.50 will fit with no rub at all, while the 12.50 will fit with some rub, backspacing will help take care of that rub
example:

Also you can do a body lift for Farly cheep
Example with 2" body lift

Old Man Emu lift kit options

Option (1)

2"-3" Lift (approx.)

Sdori 1.5" Ball Joint Spacers (1pair)
Sdori 2" Coil Spacers (pair)
OME N98 Front Shocks (each)
OME N71E Rear Shocks (each) FJ80 Shock
OME 901HD Coil Springs (each)
OME SD33 Steering Stabilizer
Total $638.65

Option (2)

1.5"-2" Lift (approx.)

Sdori 1.5" Ball Joint Spacers (1pair)
OME 901HD Coil Springs (each)
OME N98 Front Shocks (each)
OME N72F Rear Shocks (each)
Total $501.24

Option (3)

1.5"-2" Lift (approx.)

Sdori 1.5" Ball Joint Spacers (1pair)
Sdori 2" Coil Spacers (pair)
OME N98 Front Shocks (each)
OME N72FRear Shocks (each)
Total $454.72

Example of 2" OME lift

2" 4Crawler lift
1.5 BJ spacers and 2" coil spacers $189.00

1.5" BJ spacers and 80 Series Land cruiser coils
80 series land cruiser (1990-2008)

80 Series Land cruiser coils
*lift 3" * Also If you get them of a truck, they come one short sided one long, just the way they are, so try to get a pair of short sided, or longer sided, only about 1/4" difference

Example with of 1.5" BJ spacers and 80 Series Land cruiser coils
80 series land cruiser on 33x12.50

4-5" Rough Country lift $609
*Now this is meant for an 86-96 4wd IFS Pickup, however all you need to do is replace those blocks with 80 Series Land cruiser coils.*

4" Trail Master lift $1,642
*Notice it would have coil springs for the rear, not blocks*

4" Procomp lift $1,373

Example of 4" and 33x12.50

If their is any i forgot, or you think i should edit something let me know.

I think it will look funny. They already have the squatty rear look without lifting the front. There are other options for lift coils if you don't want to go as tall as cruiser coils. OME, Downey, etc.... I'd probably go with one of those, but you'll have to figure out which one you want.

Yeah. I thought it would look funny too but it would help wheeling a bit..

Do you know anything about the OME or Downey coils?

Thanks

I know this has beat to death but would the landcruiser coils require new shocks or extended brake lines?

Thanks
