Yes an intercooler would be a very good idea ! if your running stock boost then you wont need a large one... Also with any turbocharged/supercharged vehicle u want to use the highest octane gasoline you can.. This prevents Detonation ! Detonation = BOOM !! Sure you will be fine on lower grades, but if you intend on performing the motor at all/high RPM's underload Then make sure you are running a higher octane ; )

well i knew that but i don;t know much about this motor i mean if its super low comp and only running 6 psi say at like 7 to 1 comp you should be ok on 89
and i don;t even know if this motor has a knock sensor

BTW do you own a 89 gts with a GZE or just like them?
I do run a page called www.midwest4ag.com

and have a super charged mr2 and corolla!

Running an intercooler is a good start to modding any turbod car. The right size intercooler is needed though. Too small, and you will get heat soak...that defeats the purpose of an intercooler

I'd always intercool. You will not regret it.

If your running a stock 22RTE and using it as a winter beater I wouldn't bother. Stock it runs about 6-8 psi depending who you talk to, at stock boost levels it won't really make too much of a diff.

Mines a bit modified with cam and different turbo but still close to stock boost levels and I've had no audible pinging with 87 gas, but I mostly run 91 anyway.

Your first bit of cash should be spent on an boost and EGT guage and then a better turbo like a CT26 or a some sort of T3/T4. Then if you go up in boost put a IC in, also your gonna need some sort of engine management if you go over 10 psi or so.
