Hey everyone i was planning to change my timing chain with engnbldr's timing chain replacement kit with the metal guides. i was wondering what other kits i should order such as a gasket kit for all the things that ill be removing like the water pump and timing cover gasket. also does anyone have any experience with the kit?

Yes I have used engine builder kits and parts on quite a few 22rec engines. I never had any problems

I would take a good look at the timing cover to make sure it has not been rubbed by the chain if the guide broke .

If it is in the budget you might want to think about a new oil and water pump since your going to have that all apart

 

yeah i was thinking about that but not too worried because changing the water pump isnt that hard.

when changing out the timing chain, youll need to take off the timing cover, which is attached to the oil pan. I would replace the oil pump and oil pain gasket. Just make sure that the timing cover is in good condition. it is not necessary to take the head off, but i did. So, timing cover gasket, water pump gasket, oil pan gasket, valve cover gasket.

 

If you are getting the kit from enginebuilder let him know what gaskets you are needing. He added an oil pump to a kit I purchased and was real easy to deal with. If you even suspect you need a cover I would go ahead and order one so you don't have the extra down time. There is a kit with cover, water pump and oil pump. That is what I would recommend to anyone having to change the timing chain. Depending on miles you have you have to remove than reinstall them anyway, I would go ahead and put new on to save time and trouble in the future.

 

well the previous owner said that the engine was rebuilt so im guessing all those things were rebuilt and all of the pumps work fine. i guess ill just get those gaskets from the local parts store

 

the metal guided kit from engnbldr comes with all of the BASIC gaskets needed to do the change; they're under everything in this pic, so you can't see them



which includes the timimg cover gasket(s), front seal, oil pump gasket, and water pump gasket

it may benifet you to get an oil pan gasket too, but a lot of people just settle for a bead of silicone, and it works fine; personally, I would much rather have that cork material filling there

yess sir. thats all i believe. Also those valve cover grommets bolt thingy. The kit comes with oil pump ring, front main seal, and the gaskets for the timing cover and the waterpump.

 

Hmm, should I get some of those stupid rubber grommets for the valve cover then? I was planning on going to the dealer and buying a toyota timin chain gasket and whatever other gaskets I needed....
