lots of pictures, lots of plastic baggies and a sharpy and some tape so you can label whats what.

Take your time and label and bag everything, nuts, bolts and hoses.

When you take your timing cover off, make a template with cardboard so that you remember which bolt came from which hole. For the most part its easy but 2 of the longer bolts switched could cause some issues.

When you go to take the intake manifold off, remember the hidden allen bolt and the hidden bolt under the valve cover that goes into the top of the timing cover. It will be covered in a puddle of oil.

Label everything, be very organized about everything you remove, make sure to buy new head bolts, if it were up to me I would remove the whole engine and rebuild if I had that problem.

The bottom end is in good shape. There's no water in the oil, so I caught it early. It's got 180k mi and I got a NEW assembled head for $280 with all the gaskets. I ordered the new head bolts yesterday. It was getting hot and steam was blowin out of the tail pipe along with exhaust fumes coming from the radiator. Head gasket, or cracked head.

I thought about an engine rebiuld, but toyota's run so long because they were built with such tight tolerances. Rebuilt 22RE's won't last long cause the original factory tolerances aren't held on a rebuild. They are close, but not as close as the japs. I drive this damn thing everyday for the gas mileage and I wheel almost every weekend.

You want to be careful about ethnic slurs. You may be alienating someone who would otherwise be a friend.
