22re alternator in a 22r?
Hey everybody, lately I've been getting signs of a bad alternator (battery and brake lights on, headlights very dim when driving) I've looked into it and found that I could pull the alternator and replace the brushes with new ones from toyota, but then I found a guy on Craigslist selling a 22re alternator and was wondering if it's the same as the 22r alternator? If I could just buy that and swap it out that seems it would be much easier than replacing the brushes...

Also, do the charge and brake fault lights stay on steadily?
+1 to ewong's suggestion ^^^ above.
+1 to wyoming. Inspecting/replacing brushes on alternator that you know the history of is better than unknown replacement.
IF one for sale matches your 22R starter mounting, pulley and belt mechanically AND electrically (is your 22R alt 60-amp?), BUT connectors and/or regulator do not (internal versus external),AND you are savvy with wiring, you should be able to swap.

Thanks to Wyoming and RAD4Runner
Cleaning out stuff - I found a bag with OEM parts marked witha sharpie in my handwrigint that htey are ALT parts
And on the shelf is my old / original alternator...
I can replace the brushes and have a "reman" ready to plug and play when my "hi po" alt gives up (thats not the first high po alt I've had either...)

Most welcome Ewong.
Is "hi po" a brand?
P.O.,
If replacement alternator matches mechanically and electrically but connector is different,
wiring is simple. Just need to figure out which are the "S", "IG", "L" and "B" wires:

Got it, thanks everybody. The brake and battery lights do stay on continuously and never turn off when driving. Hearing all your guys input I think I'm just going to go with fresh brushes from Toyota and rebuild mine. Thanks everyone.
