It's pretty involved, but there have been TONS of posts here and Yotatech.com, etc. on this mod. Not for the weak of heart.

your toyota drivetrain might hold up fine to the 4.3, but i think the 350 would tear your ring and pinion apart, if not your transmission. just something to consider....your drivetrain was not made to handle that kind of torque

his ring and pinion will handle it fine. i used to have a 83 pickup with a 350 and T350 tranny running 39" boggers. no problems and his axle is stronger now i believe

i dont think the tranny would hold up to a 350, if you could find a tranny for it i would go that way, if not just do the 4.3

4.3 with 700R4 mated to toyota transfer case

I mated a toyota transfer case to the 700R4 4spd auto behind a 4.3 chevy. Slipped it all into a suzuki samuria with toyota diffs.

i put a cross-fire injection 350 from a 92 corvette in an 84 toyota 2wd pickup. It was somewhat difficult and you need a lot of tools, but doable none the less. I never really gotten into it to see if the axle would hold, but the kid i put it in for is still driving it 8 months later with no problems in the rear end.
we put in a newly rebuilt motor and transmission and had to build the wiring harness(the biggest pita), change the motor mounts, put in an electric fan (the water pump fan wouldn't fit, even after we shaved some of the firewall). I spent alot of time just staring wondering where to go next. in your case (and in my friends) it can be expensive, especially with the motor. You need all kinds of sensors and switches that toyota didn't plan for, the new ecu, and who know what it could cost if you have to pay someone to do any of it. The tranny that came with the 22re engine is pretty damn durable. I've seen people running 38's with no mods to the transmission. They were slow but toyota trucks are beastly when it comes to durability.
