2 pinion or 4 pinion differential

I am about to order 5.29's for the front and rear. Ineed to know how to tell the difference in a 2 pinion and 4 pinion rear for the master install kit.

Thanks,
Dale

if you have stock gears in your truck, your axle code will have a letter than a 3 digit #.... the last digit should be a 2 or a 4 ... those are for the pinion

code should either be on the door jamb or on the plate under the hood. for the most part(not necessarily 100%) if you have a 4 cylinder engine without the turbo, you'll have a 2 pinion rear. if you have a V6 or turbo 4 cylinder, most likely a 4 pinion rear, though i've seen some with 2 pinion.

count the number of ribs on the diff. (low pinion diffs)
3 ribs = 2 pinion.
4 ribs = 4 pinion.

OK I have a 94 v-6 auto and my vin # has a 2 in it and thats it so I was thinking of a 2 pinion and now I counted the ribs and now i'm thinking it's a 4. Now what. Thanks alot for the help and keep it coming. Sooner or later we'll get this figured out.

Thanks again, Dale
