Unhappy 1994 4runner tranny issues :(

my hubby and I pulled her (94 4 runner) outta the farm field after being severly abused. shall we known that before hand. the seller told us ne parked it just after overheating and he didn't drive it, liar. she was dead, but had potential. so hubby put new head gaskets and flushed, and flushed. But we cant seem to get the transmission streightened out. it has the etc button, which is a joke! but we cant find any info on the transmission as far as specs./description of automatic transmission. we have a haynes, not in there. can anyone help tell us what mite be going on. it wont shift through gears properly, it will go manually shifting. thought mayb drive it a bit might loosin around the sensors in the tranny. didn't work. fluids are clean, But we dont know where the sensors are without taking the pan down and would like to know approx where there location is, b4 we went that route. also is there a way to bypass or disconnect the etc button? Thanks for any advice. hope to post pics soon. she will be a beauty providing things get worked out.

What exactly is it doing? Stuck in one gear? Wont shift through all gears? Erratic shifting? What gears are you getting while accelerating? Why do you want to bypass the ECT button?

FSM link, transmission section, transmission type is listed on the door with the VIN.

All the info you could want, hopefully..

No need to muck with the ect I can think of, but it's a standard on(closed)/off(open) type switch.
