Exclamation 1994 4Runner rear window fix

Hello,

I'm seeking some help with a rear window issue I'm having with my1994 Toyota 4Runner. I bought it after it was involved in a minor accident in which it was rear ended. I put on a new tailgate and rear bumper. Since replacing the tailgate, the window switch near the center console with roll the window up, but not down. I am able to roll the window up and down using the key at the tailgate with no issues whatsoever. I've tested the motor using a 12V battery and it works just fine. I've made sure the rear wiper is seated correctly as well. My 4Runner has electric windows and the 'Window Lock' button on the driver side door is not engaged. I'm guessing it may be the switch in the center console is bad, but I don't know how to test it and a new switch is about $50 on Ebay. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks so much in advance! Matt

I would start by taking that console switch apart and cleaning the contacts, it could just be dirty and corroded inside. If that doesn't do it then you can start tracing wiring to find the issue. Start with the easiest first though.

It's not the same truck model/rear window switch, but maybe you have the same problem, dirty contacts:

You guys rock! I pulled the switch apart, cleaned the contacts with some rubbing alcohol and BOOM! Window rolls up and down now. Thanks so much!
