1990 4runner starting issues
I need help here, I just recently replaced the starter and starter wire in my 1990 toyota 4runner, when i go to start it up the starter spins, but the truck won't fully turn over and start, any ideas?

sounds like bad linkage or relay. did you drop the new starter when you were installing it? Possibly defective. Good connections? whenever I replace starters I replace all the wires

i didnt bang it at all when i put it in, and that thread doesnt really help because my starter is spinning, a mechanic friend of mine told me it could be the efi relay, but idk how to check if it's burnt out

Is it turning the engine over or is it just spinning the starter motor? If the starter is just spinning and not engaging the flywheel, I'd be returning it for another, sounds like you got a defective unit. The EFI relay isn't even part of the starter circuit, so unless it's now cranking and not starting, that isn't your issue.

it could be a starter issue, sounds like the contacts are dirty. tap it with a hammer and see if it will then turn over the motor if it does then its ur contacts for sure, if everything turns off when u try and start it could be bad conection at the battery with the pos or neg.

if you turn the key and just hear a click it's likely that you need a starter relay. i had the same problem with my 1990 3.0L. clip the wire going from the ignition to the starter and just wire in a relay. fixed my problem
