1988 4 Runner Top has rusty trim pieces

The black outside bottom trim pieces that are under the sliding windows has some bad rust on them. Does anybody have any ideas on fixing or replacing these. My 88 4 Runner has no rust except for these two foot long trim pieces. There are a couple of dime size rusted through holes. Aluminum would have been a better material...anyway I appreciate any thoughts.

You have to remove the window assembly to work on these pieces. There was someone here last year who was developing a fiberglas version, usually they call em "L-Brackets". Otherwise, just keep a lookout for someone parting out a 4Runner top, get some clean ones, and cut out the windows, fix the brackts, and glue them back on. They're attached the same way windshields are, with a bead of the black window caulk-adhesive.

I'd be interested in aftermarket replacements as well. My top suffers from the same rust. If I could replace these pieces I may not cut my top up into a rack-holder only.

I have two complete window assemblies with good trim that I would sell for $75 total, plus boxing and shipping... just in case someone is interested.

I just scored two perfect L brackets off of a runner for $5 each a few days ago, plain on repainting and replaceing rubber seals as well as painting and rebuilding much of the top this summer.

These trim pieces on my hard top had a lot of surface rust on them. I chose the sandpaper-in-hand remedy. Then I proceeded to repaint these pieces with some elaborate taping measures. I painted the whole top with Rustoleum Satin Black. It actually looks very good.

I took mine out, sandblasted and repainted the trim and window frame.
