1988 4 runner NEW oil leak

To all,
My 1988 4Runner stalled out in a parking lot and started to leak oil (alot). The engine has been resealed, (value cover, oil pan, etc) and there have been no oil leaks for a year. I waited a day and the started the engine with no knocks or grinding, so I didn't throw a rod through the engine block. I haven't taken apart the truck yet but the leak looks to be coming from the front of the truck of the engine block, that is where all the oil is all over the front. Any ideas?

Thanks,
Steve

I would say front crank oil seal.

Could be the oil pump seal, or timing chain cover.

Clean off the surface oil and see if you can detect where the leak is coming from. I'm also guessing that it's the front main seal.

fortunately the front main seal is easy to replace. remove the fan shroud, belts and crank pulley, then unbolt the oil pump. knock the seal out of it, then drive a new one in and reassemble. i'd recommend using a new oil pump o-ring as well.

now, a rear main seal, those aren't fun in the least. after you've done 2 in as many weeks, you start to not like working on cars...

Hmm... I had the timing belt replaced in October and all the other stuff that goes with it (original water pump, seals, original radiator, etc.). Since the equipment was all original, I spent the money to have an new front end, so to to speak. I will be @#$%*$ if I got a bad seal somewhere in that process.
