1987 PU Resto

Hey everybody, picked this thing up after looking for a clean PU for a while. This things been a socal truck from new and never molested. Over all its in great shape but it's time for a little tlc. 90k on New long block from the dealer and 5k on a trans rebuild. It even passed smog first try with no "tricks". What does everyone thing about putting 87-88 4runner stripes on it instead of the pickup ones?

well, in my opinion, its a beautiful truck. I wouldn't put fake SR5 stripes on it since its not an sr5 or a 4runner personally, but its your truck!

That is a nice pickup. I have sr5 stripes on my pickup and while it is an sr5, Ive never cared for the stripes. I would spend my money on an alarm system or hire an armed guard to keep some idiot from stealing that pickup if it were mine.

Its YOUR rig, so what you want. Hard to call it a Resto with the wrong stripes though

I wouldnt touch the paint either. Considering how clean it is, youd be taking away from it by adding stripes

There’s nothing to resto... it’s already been resto’d...

If you want to treat it like an investment, leave it alone. Garage it. Pamper it. Putt it around. These trucks in that condition are only getting more rare, will only hold their value, and appreciate. Original stripes, or no stripes at all. This is the “smart” thing to do.

If you want to enjoy it, ˟˟˟˟ it up however you want. Your truck. Your time. Your money.
If that’s the case though, I’d suggest getting one in not such a pristine looking condition. Or don’t, it will only make Keycw’s that much more valuable.

Looks good on the outside but theres definitely a lot of worn out old parts underneath. And this truck hasn't been restored its original.

Been working on making the truck a better overall driver, the interior is my focus at the moment. I got some 2nd gen 4runner seats and a tacoma console. Also starting to upgrade some stuff under the hood. Gonna put tach, temp and oil pressure gauge in. Gonna try and build some storage where the back shelf was for tools and such.

Beautiful!
I would not put stripes, either. In fact,I want to remove mine because I like things as simple as possible and it would make it look cleaner.

Nice truck!
The paint looks very good the way it is, it doesn't need the stripes in my opinion, but If you like them, install them, if you change your mind you can remove them, it's a reversible process if you don't mind to spend around $300 for them

I'm going to disagree. I love the stripes from the late 80s!

Nice interior!
do those seats bolt right up?
And what did you have to do for the console?

I love 80's car graphics too. The seats will bolt up for the most part, I had to enlarge the holes a little bit to fit correctly. The console fits great and works with the shifter bezel. I took the console apart to clean and replaced all the rubber tabs. Found a guy on ebay who makes these inserts for aux switches. They fit great.
