wiper problems.....

so for whatever reason i just assumed that the switch on the column was broken as a reason for my intermitten wipers not working.

i got one off ebay for less then 20. yeasterday i spent about 3hrs (no manual, never done it before) to swap it. and then to swap it back. why? didn't solve my problem. i do like working on these trucks though, so easy and uncomplicated straight forwardness.

not to mention the switch i got did not have the cruise control but i was willing to sacrifice that for working intermitten wipers. i like in seattle.

anyway, my question/problem then is....what else can be the source/problem of my intermitten wipers not working?? the wiper motor? is there a relay (if that matters, i don't even know what a relay does!)?

thanks

The relay/module is what does the actual intermittent operation. The switch just supplies the input to the module to tell it what mode to operate the wipers in. I would check that part out, since the switch did not fix the problem. Wiper control relay should be behind the passenger side kick panel.

As I wrote in my original reply:

Again Roger beat me to it, but the relay is the next link. It is behind the computer (ecu) under the passenger kick panel. I had to unbolt the computer and move it aside to access the relay. It is green and had two pig tail connectors plugged into it. The hardest part of the replacement, if that is necessary, will be extracting the relay from it's mounting post. Fatigued by trying to preserve the mounting post and impatient at failure to remove the relay, I used a flat blade screw driver and carefully broke the retaining ridges on the relay so I could get it out

Either get a Factory Service Manual and follow the troubleshooting steps, or it may be the wiring/connectors or the wiper motor that is defective. If the wipers work on normal speed, then likely the motor is fine and the wiring from the relay to the wipers is also likely OK.

The wiper relay box is green, located behind the computer.

That's where the car-part site is good, will search junkyards for the part, locally or nation-wide.
