my truck has 246000 miles on it with no rebuild and i use plain old valvoline, it runs great. all those high dollar oils seem like a waste to me.

I had a 22RTE truck that had 210,000 on it when I traded it to my dad for a FJ60, he sold it later. The only thing that was ever done to it was the front seal and it was ran on plain old Valvoline Dura-blend.

Actually, Toyota calls for Havoline motor oil. I used to use Valvoline, but then the price of oil went up and I also noticed that Valvoline changed their formula! The store happened to be out of the grade that I needed and Havoline was cheaper anyway, so I bought it. It's worked great, and I still use it 3/4 of the year. For winter, I go with Castrol Syntech Blend (1/2 synthetic). I also have cousins who race stock cars, and they both use Havoline (and they WIN!) So far no regrets. That's my $.02

Agreed. I buy whatever is on sale at Walmart, always have. 240k on the old 85, 270k on a V6 Montero, and 219k on the 90.

I get the 1-gallon Penzoil 10W30 jugs from Wal-Mart for ~$8.99.

If you change your oil every 3-5K miles (about 3-months of driving for me), there's no reason to use expensive motor oil because you're not leaving the oil in there long enough for it to break down or collect dirt and other contaminants.

It's not hard to change the oil on these trucks that sit way up high, so why not change it more often?

The best oil is clean oil.
