Hi i have been trying to figure out which vacuum hose diagram goes with my 1985 xtracab pickup 4wd sr5 manual trans, and 22re. I looked at several diagrams but they say federal/canadian, california, and some dont say. I've also, looked at others pictures of the engine compartments and some things don't match mine or someone will have one hose connected one place while another will have it in a different place. Whats confusing is they will say they have the same engine and year yet they have different set ups. I also, wanted to know because i bought a weapon r intake kit and it says to remove the pcv hose from the air intake and engine. My truck doesn't have a pcv hose connected to the air intake. In fact it has no hoses connected to the air intake. Please help thanks.

 

the hose diagram should be on a sticker underneath the hood, the smog guys use it to smog your car.

I dont think there is a big difference between Cali/Fed/and Canada models in the 85 year. There is a bigger difference in the early 90s models but not your year if I am correct.

The VSV on the rear of your valve cover is what controls flow of the fuel. That is the one you need to make sure is correct. i have not heard of the kit you have bought and not sure what it does. You should have the pcv hooked up as far as I know, not sure why they want it removed.

thanks hope i can figure it out, the thing that throws me off that in the 85 diagram it is missing things that i see in the 88 diagram. Well if the truck doesn't start I'll know where i went wrong. Thanks again. I wish the hanes books had the diagrams in it with detail

 

Which ones are needing to see? I will see if I can post some of the VSV up tomorrow that may help.

 

the vsv in front of the egr valve, in the center pic of the three pic lineup... there is a 3-pack of hoses or something grouped together, and the center one looks like it's not connected?

don't worry about the '88 hose diagram, it's not all applicable for our earlier trucks.

the later 22re's had a hose running parallel to the intake tube, that runs from the air box to the throttle body area, i wonder if that is what the weapon r instructions are talking about.

 

oh yeah I think your right about the weapon r instructions, Guess i just won't use the hose it came with and i will just plug up the hole in the intake tube where its suppose to go. Thanks

osv your also right about some not being connected, thats why i need the diagrams. I keep moving them around according to the diagrams i have seen but since some have been different it got me all confused as to witch is the right set up for my truck. I think am close to figuring it out and tomorrow i am going to check the factory service manual. thanks

 

I am in a similar situation where I picked up a "new to me" same model/year truck as LAKINGS#1 (85 xtracab 4wd 5sp).


Originally a CA truck, it was moved to NV and had a new Daves Offroad motor put it it. Now the truck is back in CA and i'm going through it in prep for Smog/reg.

I am fine with the vac diagrams however my confusion is to the 'resonator'. I have the 85 FSM and don't see my setup 'exactly' in there. The only 'efi' setup shown in the FSM is just like the diagram above, there is no "California' EFI section. The only CA section shows CARB only.

Can I assume that there is only a single EFI setup for the 22re? Basically I don't have the resonator on my rig and don't even see a place to connect it so not sure if it's part of these or not and or required for CA smog?

in the 85 FSM.. this is the only page that has "California" on it... but it is also the CARB page..



The only EFI page is this one but doesn't mention CA.... Mine looks exactly like this but like I said it doesn't mention CA so I assume that all EFI are the same across all 50 states?

 

the resonator looks like it is for carb only, not applicable to your efi rig.

i certainly didn't need it to pass ca smog on my '86 efi 4runner.

 

Ok cool that's what I was hoping...

and just out of curiosity.. the air injection tubes are blocked off on mine...I don't see any mention of that in the FSM so can I assume it's not active on this model/year?

 

they are blocked off on mine as well.

the first thing to test is to put vacuum to the top of the egr, and see if the idling motor hiccups or even dies... disconnect the vacuum hose going to it, at the end of the metal tube that runs along the side of the head, and suck on the hose... even that small amount of vacuum should make the motor stumble.
