I installed a twin stick shifter on my 4wd 85 PU w/ 22r and forward shift G52 Trans. Removed the interlock pin. Love 2L for fire roads, backing up trailers, pulling into/out of garage. But I had hoped to be able to shift from 2L to 2H, while moving at speed. So when towing something heavy I can start out in 2L at a stop light and shift to 2H at, say, 40mph when I run out of gear in 2L. So far I haven't had much success doing this, occasionally it pops right into 2H at low speeds, mostly I get no-go feedback when I try. I have tried combinations of clutching trans and t-case in neutral before shifting into 2H, I haven't as yet found that to work. I definitely don't understand trans and tcase well enough to know if I should be able to shift into 2H at speed, also haven't found specific info in other threads. Does anyone have knowledge of / experience with this?
Its a non synchronized gear. Like a tractor. Not really made to be shifted on the fly.
How fast are you going when youre trying to shift? Whats the paper on the back of the visor say about shifting between 4 high and 4 low? (mines gone, but I think it says to do it under 10 mph)

Damn, yeah I guess I didn't think to check the back of the visor. When I try to shift the t-case, I'm generally going under 5 mph, but I'd like to shift going more like 40, that would dramatically increase towing capabilities. I wonder if there's anything fundamentally different about shifting a t-case compared to shifting other non-synchro gears.
So I've been messing around with this some more, and have discovered that after popping the clutch with both the trans and t-case in neutral, I can shift the t-case at speed. So when I have to tow something I shouldn't, or when I'm in stop and go traffic, I can start out in 2L, then go from 4th in 2L to, say, 2nd in 2H with no problems. It definitely takes a little practice to get the technique down, but this is making the twin stick perhaps the most useful modification I've done to my rig.
These twin stick install instructions show the interlock pin...I know there are some threads out there about removing with the t-case in the vehicle. Not sure if there was much variation through the years. https://trail-gear.com/media/downloa...7500-1-INS.pdf
