unfortunatly this morning someone slid out in the snow and hit me head on. luckily my just rebuilt 22re wasnt damaged, it was mostly cosmetic.

im making a junkyard run to look for body parts this weekend and since i have some gear noise going on i figured i'd look for a trans while im there. i have an 87 4runner with a 22re and i believe the trans is a w56-b. does anyone know what transmissions are compatible with my truck? what year they could come out of or if maybe a pickup would have a compatible trans? any help is appreciated, thank you

 

any "W" series transmission should work, just pay attention to the shifter location on top (see pics below). A forward shift transmission needs to be used with a forward shift transfer case. Your's should be a top shift case and trans

85-88 4Runner or Truck that has the 22RE will work without any mods. These will be top shift (only the gear shift is on the trans) & 5-spd. The forward shift as pictured above has the gear shift and the xfer case shift on the trans. Carb'd 22R is not the right trans.

85 is the W56A & 86-88 is the W56B.
