Project "Head on" begins..... 56k grab some coffee

this will be Yotaworks' first build!

the background:
my buddy was hit head on driving to yakima in his 85 4runner. the truck was totaled. he ended up getting $7700 PLUS got to keep the truck from the insurance company. so with the money he bought another 85 4runner. the plan is to grab the badland bumpers/ slider and the axles off the old and throw them under the new. do some body touch up and clean up the new one and get it back on the road. he wants to part out / scrap what he can off the old 4runner.

In with the new:
its an 85 4runner that already has a built 350 with a turbo350 tranny and toyota Tcase. the bellhousing is cracked that has to be replaced. but after that it should be a fairly simple swap

Transmission TH 350

Suspension

- 56" Chevy rear springs
- 2" body lift
- F350 Front Shock mounts

- IFS steering box
- Custom extened long travel front driveline
- Custom rear driveline
- Warn Hubs
- R&D Engineering High strength birfs
- Spooled Rear
- 4.10 gears front and rear

That shop looks like a storage shed facility.

it is storage shed facility... but they allow you to work on your vehicle. there is several other people in the complex doing the same thing, and one guy even has a full on import tuning shop, dyno and all. the other side of the work bench (you can kinda see the TG banner thru the door) is my other 1/2 and thats where my 4runner lives.

Oh, cool. It's nice that they allow you to work on stuff in there. Are there enough electrical outlets & such?

there is 1 20 or 30 amp outlet in each bay. so you just use surge protectors and you can power everything you need.

More progress again tonight.... but started off with some bad news. the motor is shot. we were able to get about 30psi on one cylinder... the good news is we were able to pull the front axle and get it moved out of the way as well as pull all the ARB lines and ECU and motor harness.

the frame just wants to be triangulated.... thats all...

Looks good so far. Disregard the storage shed comments, wouldn't be the first business to start out like that. Heck, even Apple computers started in a garage, I am thinking it worked out for them...

You start on the freebie 4runner of yours yet?

thanks. this side of the shop is pretty plain, i'll take some good pics of the other side where all my tools and creature comforts are, basically i'm renting out 2 units and cut a door between them. i have a 12x60 shop plus a 12x8 loft for parts.

no work on the Project DD. i;m looking for an 88 or 89 auto tranny to swap into it.

i'm working on getting a real banner.... for now spray paint will work

ok so tonight we were able to get the exhaust pulled, the bench, the roll bar and gas tank. basiclly everything out of the rig that we want to keep. (minus the gas tank, that just needed to get drained). the motor is prep'ed and waiting to be pulled. the owner wanted to be there when its yanked out so we waited. the rear of the 4runner is filled with the garbage steel that needed to go away with the halk.

pics tomorrow morning, i'm tired and going to bed.

*edit*

looks like the owner uploaded some pics already...

i'll get more up tomorrow.

more progress in the last few days... the truck has been stripped completely and anything we're keeping / selling have been pulled. truck was then filled with the crap that we didnt want (including some left over parts from my 97) and hauled away today. the motor, exhaust, tranny have been sold.. the shop got a cleaning after the carcass was removed and it sitting empty waiting for the new truck to be put in and get the build on... on to the pics...

Looks like you could have salvaged quite a few more things...brake parts, ps parts, hard top, dash etc. Why not part out the rest and make some more $$$?

Looks like the fun is about to begin.

I would agree with you, but noone said anything was wrong with the storage shed. Stop trying to create drama where there is none.
