Piston hit head, head usable still?

I pulled a head off an 84 22re today. I bought the engine off a guy who said it had a rod knock.

Here is what the bottom of the head looks like where I think the piston hit.

How critical is this? Can it be ground out or something?

Here's a picture of the piston that hit.

Does the head still look usable? I want to sell it. I'm going to be putting a 20r head on this block and new pistons etc.. Need to know if the head is junk now or usable.

i would say it needs to be welded up and reformed right there.

thats where the head gasket seals the head chamber, i think it would cause premature hg failure. might want to check with a machine shop though.

this is why it ticks me off when someone on CL is asking 250$ or 400$ for a engine and they say it has a knock.

I am getting really tired of people wanting outrageous prices for broken engines.
I can go to the Upull here in town and pull a engine out one of 4 trucks for 250$
and pull every other part out of the engine well that I might need for that price.

sorry to see yours is messed up kind of looks like the end of the spark plug broke off and got smashed before it got blown out the exhaust.

Ya it sucks. Luckily I don't need the head for myself but I still do not know the condition of the cylinder wall. It looks to have scratches in it, we'll see how far down they go and how deep soon.

I was just going to sell the head to help pay me back for the cost of the engine, maybe someone will still want the cam and rockers.

looks more like something went down into the cyclinder and got between the piston and the head.

I would have to agree it looks like something fell into the piston and caused it.

Should still be useable... there must have been some severe wear on that rod for the piston to travel that far up.. man thats crazy.

I'm running dented pistons have been for a few k miles theyre doing fine

I agree take it to a shop have have them do it right or sell it as is. I'm sure you'll get a few bucks for it.

I concur, the threads look messed up as well, from where it may have broke off. Then got smashed again in the head.
