Now that I have an 85 I am happy to share some of these here - Mine and my boyfriend's 1985 yota 22R dual case, one ton rear with a spool, and 3/4ton front locked. we had it green before, painted it rusty red primer, and just did the cage and track bars this last month, pix are from its first adventure with the cage in Hollister Hills this memorial weekend. (the runner is our friends truck, all Toyota running gear, locked, dual cases etc.)

Hi Wardameagle, I know it's an old post and don't know if your still in Gulf Shores but I am looking at pics of your runner and wondering about those fender flares and where you found them. I too have an 85 and I live up in Miflin, hopeing you can remember. thanks.

85 4Runner pic

Just picked her up about a week ago. 1985 4runner SR5 22RE. Mild lift on 33s, a hi-steer kit, and currently welded rear diff. I have a new 3rd member with a locker I'll be installing in the rear instead.

Nice, is it in pretty good shape? It looks like it is. Are you going to put the welded diff up front?

Intro 85 4runner

Just joined the forum. Got this 1985 4runner about 2 weeks ago. Had to tow it back, rear diff was clunking and rear axle seals leaking. At this point, I've rebuild the shafts while removing the backing plates as prep for rear disc brake conversion. I pulled the third member, looking for a shop who will replace ring and pinion at a reasonable price (any pointers to a shop in Austin, TX area?).

As a little background, I used to have an 89 4runner that got stolen, swamped auto for manual, 22re rebuild, rear disc brake conversion, new interior trim and body paint. Have been wanting one ever since.

The new truck has some rust in the back where the spare tire goes. Has a 94 motor running good. 35" tires and missing rear shocks. Plan is to out a shop bar in the rear.

Nice rig it’s a unique colour. Kinda nice it just needs chassis/axle work instead of motor.

Thanks! Definitely a lot more on my to do list but want to get it up and running as it will be my daily driver. Thus, investing in brake system first.

Throw a giant Sex Wax or Santa Cruz sticker on the door and that paint would fit right in.
