That's a pretty clean looking Xtra-Cab, wish my 85 Xtra-Cab looked that good when I bought it from the divorcee in Pacoima.
Yep, it's rust free and original. Drove it 120 miles home through L.A. stop and go traffic and really happy to have an automatic transmission. Nice to have the O.D. for 60/65 mph once on the open road.

Ok, starting a restoration of my 1984 SR5, 4wd, Extra cab, 22R, that I bought new in 84 of course. Over the years I have messed with the paint, rattle can, 3 times which has helped to preserve the metal. Not much rust. 299,000 miles, sunroof, 5 speed. Couple pics below, one plain as I painted and one as she will look after a real painter does his job. The decals and such already bought, along with new carpet, grill, etc, which willl put her back to how she came from the factory.
Got a 85 my baby and a blue SR5 1986 that I’m cut it up to patch my metal also taking whole roof with sunroom power doors all the goodies keep the top always good to have 3 I’m have the frame if some one’s interested and wheels inner sheet metal u will trade for canvas top

I have a bone stock 1984 4runner SR5, 22R, manual transmission. I have the opportunity to buy a 1985 SR5 22re gage cluster that allegedly works (my original one the oil and temp gages dont work). The 85 one I might buy looks like mine and has that square grid pattern on it but IDK if the 85 22re cluster is perfectly compatible with the 84 22r wiring and electrical system/sending units. Will I damage anything if I try to plug it in it if it's not compatible? Is it compatible? My brown 87 giving some help to my 84. They both run great. Just needed a jump.
Picked this up in Austin, TX this month.
Always told myself that when I got back into 4 wheeling I'd find someone that already did the hard work and then just make small changes to 'make it mine', and this one fit that bill.

A couple questions: how good is the power with 4:56 gears?
Nice rig, I’m trying to settle on gears for my 85’. I don’t plan on running anything bigger than a 32” diameter tire( HANKOOK 215/85 R16 DynaPro AT2 or so.
