85 xtra cab DLX 4x4. Lifted 6 inches sitting on 33s currently. As far as rust goes its pretty much completely clean, and the engine runs flawlessly. Im just trying to figure out an issue it is having with the transmission or possibly the clutch.
A new clutch master and slave cylinder would probably fix your clutch issues.
I replaced both the master and slave cylinder two days ago, it is still having the same problem. I can't figure out what's wrong
How many miles on the existing clutch? It may be time to change it out for a new one.
PITA but, if the new master & slave didn't fix it, a new clutch & throwout bearing with a resurfaced flywheel will fix it.
Im not exaclty sure if it has the original clutch in it or not, but thats definitely the next thing I am gonna replace
A stock type clutch is what my 22R powered crawler uses, it cost me about $150.00 and works great.
Good luck and make sure you put the friction disc in correctly. I was 8 yrs old when I learned how to install a clutch back in 1970 when my dad installed the disc backwards in his 1966 slant six Valiant. I still laugh at him for that and he still gets angry at his mistake, funny as hell.

So I scored this '84 longbed pickup a few months back. 233kmi, most of which were in Ukiah, Ca. Sold out of Auburn in October of 1984. Last 10+ years on the coast. Got it home and did a few basic items. Plugs, wires, cap, rotor, fluids, filters. Runs well enough. Timing chain looks like it was done a while ago, might do it just for the sake of knowing for sure. I dig the OEM non upgraded look, but miss some of the basic creature comforts (tach?!) of the SR-5's etc. Buddy in CO sent me a bunch of parts at a deal, including an AC kit, so I'm considering swapping out the instrument panel at the same time to the SR-5 panel. Thinking of a tan soft topper and some slightly meatier shoes on the OEM wheels for a fun but cheap beach/trail/work truck. Anyhow, here it is.
85 auto Runner, fresh 22re with stage 2 cam, headers, and custom flowmaster exhaust, 93 calipers FJ60 drilled and slotted rotor, soft top, cheapo stereo. Resto mod overlander planned with mild lift, lockers, rooftop tent
Meet Roland, 85’ LWB pickup. 22R, 5 spd. Basically bare bones and well worked, hence the moniker: ‘Roland’ the headless Thompson gunner, reference.
Roland is third in the truck project line- latest to the party.
Plans: long block-this year, springs were rehabbed a few years ago. Next will be going through the parts rig and sorting out the diffs replacing gaskets and whatever else they need, adding a Torsten locker to the rear, swapping in my old Tacoma rotors and calipers and hubs. Chevy alternator upgrade at some point, upgrade the lighting, added a homemade bumper from the parts rig awhile ago as well.
Then start on a flat bed with and over the cab rack for the spare, and top slider toolboxes on the bed, a removable lumber rack. That’s it so far anyway.
Bring Roland up to the Great Land Roland relaxing in the spa after the rattle can makeover Roland up early around 0500 on the way to work Roland, one year after the paint ‘job’ a bit lighter , post spring rehab Roland and the dreaded trailer ready for the first day of work Roland commuting past the aftermath of the ‘Eagle’s Nest’ slide,
