Need rear window help PLEASE

Rear window in 85 4runner won't move up or down previous owner said he would cross the wires at the switch but I can't seem to get it to work that way. The only key I have is a valet and it won't work in the lock cylinder so no luck back there either. I thought I posted this here yesterday but I couldn't find my post? Any help or a switch for sale or a good way around this or? Please help.
thx

To fix your key dilemma, you can remove the door panel on the passengers side, and pop out the key cylinder. There is a number stamped on it. Write it down, and put the cylinder back. Your dealer can punch out new "factory" keys from that number..... assuming they are all still original.
Best thing to do for your window is get a replacement switch and connector and splice it back in correctly and go from there. If it still acts up, your wiring harness between the rear door and the plug in the fender well is probably toasted by the tailpipe and has broken wires.

I just bought a 84 runner with a similar problem, first make sure the po put the bolt back in the driver side 2nd from the back roof bolt hole. There is a circuit switch that is broken when that screw is removed so you cant roll up the window while the roof is off. Secondly you can try to bypass all of the switches and test your motor itself with a 12v battery and two jumper wires. Remove the rear tailgate door panel and just disconnect the motor and run a positive to one side of the plug and a negative to the other. To reverse the motion of the motor, reverse the wires. However, remember the only way to get the door to unlock is to have the window mech. all the way down (if you close it). Hope this helps and good luck.

What is sounds like to me is that there is a key specialy for the tailgate of the runner.i only have one key that is bare metal. i remember hearing somthing aout a factory key that does not work for everything. Could this be my problem? If so i read a post on how to fix it. So long question short, is there two keys for my 4runner? And sorrry about any typos or misunderstandings, im typing this at school with the monitor off. Thanks alot for you help

Should be the same key for the tailgate and the ignition. Perhaps a previous owner had the ignition re-keyed and forgot to do the same to the tailgate.

It might just be a case of operator error then, i will try to roll it down with the key when i get home.

There are valet keys that won't work the trunk on most Toyotas. Your Toyota Parts counter may be able to visually identify a valet key, and cut you a new key to work the tailgate.

Otherwise, remove the tailgate lock cylinder and have a locksmith recode it for you to work with your ignition key. And for heaven's sake, make a spare key while you're there. If you lose your one and only key, or lock it inside the truck or something, you're screwed.

Cheers.

I thought the valet key was only for lockable glove boxes...?

I chased this problem from both ends- and like the post above said the wires in between the door and entry to the body were bad even though you could not visually see any damage. Download a Toyota FSM from the board and read the schematics.
