My 1985 pickup died several times on the highway and now won't start.

I have a 1985 Toyota pickup with the carbureted 22r that I desmogged and put a Weber 32/36 with a manual choke on. I also replaced the mechanical fuel pump with an Edelbrock electric pump wired to the old electric choke wire. The truck has been running fine and was able to go on long trips on the highway (150-300 mile trips) until recently.
The first time it died I was going slow on a semi hilly road and had stopped for a bit, and the truck died while idling. I checked my fuel filters and I wasn't getting enough fuel. After a bit, I started getting fuel again and the truck ran fine.
the next time was on the highway after about an hour of driving, where the engine suddenly died, and would not stay running longer than 30 sec. I figured it was just a clog in a fuel filter so I tapped the filter and the truck started and ran fine. It continued dying for the rest of my drive, and each time it would run fine after tapping on the fuel filter
I tried driving it today but could not start it.
My accessory power, fuel pump, and dash lights worked at first, and I could hear the fuel pump priming, but when I turned the key to start it all of the lights went out and there was nothing, not even the starter click. I took the key out, tried again, but this time there was no power to the radio, fuel pump or dashlights. I tried to jump the battery but my jumper pack did not recognize the battery.

I really have no clue if this is a wiring issue or what is going on, as I have a brand new battery, alternator, and fuel pump.
any suggestions?

edit: it was a bad ground for the fuel pump
