Died and won't start

99 4runner that has been longer starting over past few weeks. Not a constant problem. While driving home engine died. Accessories come on, tries to start but won't quite get there. Plenty of fuel in tank, tried jumping it so know battery not issue. Can't hear the fuel pump priming when turning the key. Think it is the fuel pump? Is this one easily accessed or a bear after dropping the tank?

Is your MIL on??

If so what codes?

Has the vehicle had it`s normal power and just hard to start ??

Has the fuel filter ever been changed??

Much easier then trying to change the pump first.

Died and won't start

No check engine light has come on. Have not checked any codes, got towed home last night. Stupid question time, would there be trouble codes without check engine light? Has been running fine right up to when it died while driving. When I turn the key I don't hear the pump prime. No idea when if ever fuel filter has been changed, I know I have not changed it. Would love a solution other than a new fuel pump. What is MIL?

MIL is an older acronym. Same as CEL.

I'm pretty sure that that the fuel pump only comes on when starter is cranking, not just when ignition is on like many other vehicles.

It could be an evap problem (saw it on another forum). Try removing the fuel cap (relieving pressure) and see if that makes a difference.
