Fuel pump issue

I have a 1986 toyota pickup 22re. I just recently bought it and drove it home and everything worked perfect. After parking it for about a day I went to start it and it just kept cranking. Checked the fuel pump for power and it was getting none. Checked fuses, relays, switched out relays with another known fully functioning truck, still nothing. Hooked up a power wire to the battery and held that to the fuel pump and started it and it worked. Then took the power from the battery off the fuel pump and it still worked like normal. We ended up wiring it to some accessory wires so it only turns on when truck is in accessory, which isn't the end of the world but I would prefer it to be how it was. So my question is what would cause the fuel pump to get no power unless "jump started" in a way?

maybe do a search on here and read the threads that come up. there are NUMEROUS threads about how to check the fuel pump circuit. changing the circuit to only work on “accessory” wasn’t one of them, but it is now.

Do you hear Circuit Opening Relay click behind glove compartment when you crank? That is the first coil of C.O.R. energizing.
Tried jumping the Fuel Pump check connector?

First coil of circuit opening relay does not energize to power FP. Once FP is on and there is combustion, hence air flow, second coil of COR keeps FP powered.

Oh? The whole purpose of the COR-VAF circuit is make sure the fuel pump shuts off as soon as the engine stops sucking air. If you get into an accident that breaks a fuel line, with your current system you'll have fuel continuously spraying while you're trapped in the cab. That's pretty close to "end of the world."

Rad4Runner's post is for your vintage truck. Use your multimeter to find the problem. Swapping relays blindly will only get you farther and farther from the fix.

Good luck!
