Longblock switch-a-roo

Hello all.

I am looking into buying a rebuilt long block and installing it myself. The place I am buying the long block from will remove my motor and install the new one for an extra $895. Longblock is $795
I want to save the $895 and do it my self
My question is how hard will it be to do it my self? I did several searches and came up with nothing. What's the hard part? Setting the timing lining up the clutch?
I want to replace the clutch also.

Disassembly
Disconnect harness
Disconnect hoses
Unbolt motor mounts and transmission
Remove old engine
Remove Throttle body/intake, valve cover, header, alternator, water pump, distributor, etc.
Remove old clutch

Reassembly
Replace clutch (need alignment tool)
Install parts on new long block (Throttle body/intake, valve cover, header, alternator, water pump, distributor, etc)
Install engine into the 4runner
Connect hoses
Connect harness
Set timing?

Take pictures of everything as your pulling it out so you know where it goes back in. I'm doing the same thing in a couple weeks. Piece of cake.

Not something you wanna do while installing the motor

Motor swaps are pretty easy in my opinion but some people have a hard time with them. Really its just a few bolts for the bell housing and motor mounts then just connecting a bunch of harnesses and vacuum lines and a few fuel lines. You can find tons of vacuum diagrams here.

If you are going from a short to a long block you will need to convert the alternator bracket or the wiring harness to the alternator.

I pretty well know the vacuum system by heart so if you need some help send me a message i'd be glad to help ya out

Cool thanks Guys.
Ill take plenty of vacuum hose and wiring harness pictures before I start.

Any opinions on a clutch would be appreciated. Should I go stock or performance?
Or any other sugestions while I got the motor out.

I would definitely go for a Centerforce or Marlin Crawler clutch.. i'm kickin myself for not installing one while the motor was out.
