Its a dealer part only, unless you can find a good used one at a junk yard.

Once a sending unit begins to act up, is there any way to fix it or is replacing the only option?
My fuel gauge only goes 3/4 of the way up when I fill up and stays there most of the time. Then it starts to go down after a while and ends up around the 1/2 full mark when I'm almost out of gas.
Previous owner did take the tank off at one point (I just got the truck)... I'm wondering if a sending unit can be installed wrong which would cause it to do this vs. it being bad and needing to be replaced?

edit: I have an '85 w/ 22r
