DTC decoding help?
I have a 94 Toyota 4Runner with the 3.0v6 VZE engine. Transmission is automatic and it is a 4wd. Just rebuilt and reinstalled the engine (valves done, new pistons, rings, rods, bearings, gaskets etc.... The check engine light comes on about 30 seconds after start up. Car runs well and when I scan it for codes my scanner comes back with "No DTC codes in Memory." I jumpered TE1 to E1 and got the following Check Engine light pulsing:
Long Pause - 1 blink - short pause - 2 blinks - short pause 5 blinks - long pause 2 blinks and then the pattern repeats ...
1 - 2 - 5 - 2
1 - 2 - 5 - 2
A little help on how to read these would be appreciated.
Other information: New knock sensor, new exhaust with headers, new muffler, new high flow catalytic, but includes all the california reed valve and egr valves (all hooked up appropriately and legally). New plugs, new wires, new rotor, new/remanufactured compressor, new/remanufactured Power Steering pump.
Idles great, runs strong

code 12
code 52
code 12 is distributor
code 52 is knock
did you replace the short knock sensor harness when you had the engine apart? it's a $10 wire that is failure prone. ie, it's fine until it gets unplugged, then they die.
code 12 is possibly a wiring problem, or a failed pickup in the distributor. IIRC there are two pickup coils in the dizzy, measure them with an ohm meter.

I replaced both the knock sensor and the short wire that attaches to it and connects with the driver side wiring harness. The old wire was frayed.
I have headers (Doug Thorley headers) on the vehicle, could those trigger the knock sensor? I also have a high flow cat and am running 2.25" exhaust tubes through a magna flow muffler.
Where on the distributor do I use my ohm meter to check and what do I check for?

the dizzy plug should have 4 wires. measure between each of them and you should have two pairs with continuity, somewhere around 200ohms (iirc) and that means the dizzy is fine.
if you have only 1 pair with continuity and the other pair is open circuit, that's your problem.

hey all, i am aware its the wrong section. But i was hoping someone could steer myself to the correct place to clarify the meaning of the code 26 my 95 4runner has decided to throw my way! thanx in advance for any and all info. mike!

Any luck with your cruise? Anyhow, your 95's code 26 is an air-fuel ratio rich. Post about it in the proper forum and you may get more help.

cruise is somewhat in the works! Trying to adjust the kickdown setting the otherday lead to the code. I turned it back to where it was, clearing the check engine code. seems to be shifting appropriately now!Keeping the fingers crossed!!
