Coolant Temperature

I have a few questions for my '85 4Runner. I have been trying to track down certain part numbers or just what things are called:

1: on my thermostat housing (on the top, in the bend) there is a sensor with one wire, I cannot find what that is for the life of me, has a single spade, and all the housings that the local parts store pulls up, they show no sensor in the housing! Please help me.

2. the tensioner pulley that I keep trying to track down from a parts store is the wrong one! the bearing in the pulley (the hole in it) is too small for the original bolt to fit through and the pulley itself is smaller thatn the original pulley.

3. I have a 120 amp alternator on the thing now and every light or anything that i turn on, even the turn signals, the damn battery gauge flicks or twitches with the blinks or lowers with the thing being turned on, doesnt matter how many rpm's im turning, UPGRADE GROUND WIRES? if so what is the one going to the underside of the fuse box by the battery?

That should be goo for now, any other ideas are REALLY appreciated!! I MEAN REALLY!! Fixing to start stripping the whole interior and lay down two coats of bedliner to all metal surfaces!

Anyone know any body around South Arkansas that does good work and good prices on gears? looking to go to 4:88s!! SOON!!

THANKS AGAIN GUYS>!!!

1. Typically one of the following:
- Temp. sensor for the A/C amplifier, shuts off A/C if engine overheats.
- Temp. sensor for the A/T computer, blocks overdrive operation until engine heats up
- (not likely in your vehicle) Temp. sender for 22RE-turbo computer to modify turbo operation when engine overheats

2. What is the inner and outer diameter of the bearing you are looking for?

Also 4crawler, love your pages have quite a few printed out for reference when I start a whole list of upgrade here in about two weeks!

Easy enough to measure the OD of the bearing itself (or the ID of the recess in the pulley) and the OD of the bolt that goes through the pulley and bearing (that will be the bearing ID). Might also try popping off one of the bearing seals and see if you can clean and regrease it. That will oftem revive a bearing as long as it is not too far gone.

I believe the part you are talking about it Toyota part number 89428A, Switch, Water Temperature (for EFI). If you have a Toyota parts book, look at the Electrical section, Figure 84-04, EFI.

Here is something no one should be without. A Factory Sevice Manual.

http://www.ncttora.com/fsm/1985/1985FSM.pdf

It will auto download, then you can save it somewhere on your hard drive. It can be invaluable when loohing up parts and specs.
There are also links to many other year models here.

If anyone is interested.
