Broken water pump bolt.

I ordered all new studs/nuts for my intake/exhaust manifolds but decided to use the old bolts for my new water pump/timing cover. An old bolt broke when I was torqing it to 12lbs!

I used sealant with the gasket like my manual instructed. Everything else went fine. All my extraction attempts failed. I would hate to damage the pump or timing cover by being more agressive with drilling the bolt out.

Do I leave it as is or will I really need to make this repair?

I broke that same one on mine, and sealed it up good with sealant. So far, no leaks.

I used the red hi-temp sealant. It was suggested to me that I leave it as is until it leaks. I suppose that's what I'll do.

If mine was a daily driver, I'd be more inclined to fix it right. The motor is gonna come out sometime in the next year or two for a rebuild, and I'll fix it the right way then. Until then, it seems to be holding fine.

Pull it back off and get a bolt in there. You will regret it if you are far from home and it starts leaking.

Chances are it will have room to grab with visegrips if you pull the water pump back off.

I did the same thing 3 times when i did my water pump. Use an EZ-out then helicoil new threads in. That is the only thing your should do, anything else is just postponing a WP leak.

Protip: Use a drill bit half the size of the bolt.. Then smack the EZ out in.

I'm fairly certain it's broken level with the timing cover, I guess I'll go ahead and yank it off (and get new bolts).
