Another broken leaf spring...

Hello all, first time post. Great site!!!!

I have an 85 4Runner (daily driver) and this morning, noticed that the leaf on the front passenger side is now broken...
Started this new thread so as to not hijack Bugzmans. Some great advice there, Ocdropzone's tip on the u-bolt in particular. Went and put a stainless steel one on for the time being. Thanks alot man!

Came across a set of leaf springs locally that are off of an 82 pickup. Would these fit? Also, are these a bear to swap out? Never done them before....

Thanks in advance guys.

Cheers!

Yeah, they'll fit, but they'll be just as flat as the ones that are on there. As for how hard they are to get off, depends where you're at and/or where the rig spent most of it's life. If it's rusted pretty bad, could be a bear, if it's a SoCal or AZ rig, probably not so bad with just a little elbow grease.

i buddy of mine had a broke leaf in the right rear. and he decided to buy one and switch it in the shop. its a 97 tacoma. and it was the biggest pain in the a$$. because when he finally got the front bolt in the front shackle beat out with a sledge hammer! he had to take the rear shackle and all off. then he had to torch the rear bolt out to get his shackle back on the truck and get another bolt. and since he bought new springs for the right his truck sat a little crooked. and so he bought new ones for the left and had to do it allll over again.

good luck! lol

That's what I was afraid of. Flat would be better than what are on there now though lol. Every one of them have a reverse bow. So of course I am concerned about replacing the broken side only and have the truck list to the the side. Don't want my truck having a 'gangster lean'....
They do have the whole set, front and rear, but trying to keep the cost down. Man, this is beginning to sound like it can get expensive, even when buying used. Especially if I can get them off. Unfortunately, buying brand new are out of the question for me.

Thanks again for the help fellas!

my buddy bought new ones. obviously no where or 'sag'. if it was me i would try and go to a junk yard. take a saws all. cut the bolt of whole shackle. take it home and gett the shackle off with a torch if possible. by gettin them from a junk yard they would have some sag so your truck jus might sit level

Front springs usually come off fairly easy as none of the bushings are sleeved. The sleeves are prone to having the spring or shackle bolt rust inside them.

worked good for me as a quick fix. just used some gnar plate and kinda pinched the leaf till i can get my new springs in.

i would suggest that if your ever wanting to upgrade your springs, now is the time to do it. no need in doing it twice. good luck bro.

Upgraded springs with poly bushings is the way to go.
