How many miles on the rig? When was the last time you serviced the trans? Has it had somewhat regular service? How many miles on the trans itself if you know?

If its the original trans it might just be wearing out. 300K is a lot for a 35 year old trans. Try servicing the transmission and see how that treats it. Also I dint know Toyota automatics. If it has a filter put a new one in. If it has a screen instead make sure you clean the screen well. Have some FIGP or Permatex equivalent, ultra gray or black, for installing the pan back on the trans, double check that as I know its what's common to put the 22re oil pan back on with FIGP vs the factory gasket.

If the Battery/Charge light came on, and the fuel gauge read incorrectly, and the transmission started doing weird things, and then all the problems went away, I would be inclined to say that all the problems are connected by an electrical problem.

Did all of the problems go away on the second drive, or was the transmission the only thing that went back to normal?

I mean it's not unheard of to get a hint or two, but yes if you start your own thread you will attract a larger audience, particularly if you snap some pictures of your Toyota and give us a basic introduction. We love pictures!

..

Yep you've probably got a bit of wear on the switch, you can source a used one from the salvage yard and see how long it lasts or have a go at servicing what you have or even your donor part.

Your switch likely has dirty contacts, nothing a bit of electrical cleaner and some Emory cloth can't fix unless you lose springs or something taking it apart.

And since we're in a thread about battery lights and wierd guage activity, most likely that's a bad connection on a ground could be the primary off the battery or the drivers side body ground.
